‘The following statement is released on 10th December 2007 at 10:15Hrs
Transaction2007 have decided to release the date and time of protest action earlier than scheduled. This is to enable the motorist and public to better prepare themselves for the coming action.
date of Saturday 15th December 2007 at 10:00am has been decided for protest action. This date was decided by members as the best possible to enable those who would normally be working during the week to attend. This action will be initiated at a refinery or storage depot somewhere near you. Anyone wishing to support action is requested to make your way there at the allotted time. Transaction again wish to emphasise the importance of legal protesting.’
Throughout their website forum Chris H, the group’s leader, repeatedly states that the protest will be ‘legal’ and that there will be no ‘blockades’.
From the statement, it is obvious that the group do intend on having a presence at some or all fuel depots and refineries. Also, from reading the forum, they say that the protest will last for 'as long as it takes'. Naturally, other than these words, the organisers are remaining somewhat tight-lipped about what form the protests will actually take.
Finding out much more will, most likely, be difficult for two reasons; firstly the group will not want to give too much away and secondly, they are not giving interviews to the media as ‘ultimately they [the media] spin things to their advantage’.
Thus far, TNN has been impressed with the way Transaction 2007 have handled themselves. The group appears to be well organised, internet literate, and most certainly not militant. We hope that this continues to be the case.
